Thinking global, acting local

There are 12 YWCA associations and 3 YWCA local groups throughout Australia committed to improving the lives of women  and girls, their families and communities.

These associations and groups are members of YWCA Australia and their interests are represented on our National Board.

Unique and independent associations

Although part of the national and international YWCA network, each local Australian YWCA association or group has its own unique history, identity and range of programs and services.

These associations and groups are independent community organisations, with their own members, board, strategic direction and focus.  They range from small groups to large organisations.

Australian YWCA associations and groups pay an annual fee quota to support the work of YWCA Australia and the work of the YWCA in Australia generally.

Providing community services

YWCAs offer a diverse range of programs and services that develop women's leadership and skills and support women and girls, their families and communities.

Many YWCA programs in Australia focus on early intervention and prevention work, working with people before they reach crisis points in their lives.

Programs and services include youth mentoring schemes, medium and long-term community housing, crisis accommodation, family violence support programs, accessible childcare, training and employment services and young women’s services. Many of our programs and services are integrated, such as housing services that offer accommodation, support, information, lifeskills assistance, advocacy and referral.

YWCAs also speak out on behalf of women in their local communities and contribute to national and international policy and advocacy work.
