The Australian Human Rights Commission has released prevalence data as part of the Supporting Working Parents: Pregnancy and Return to Work National Review. The data is the result of a national survey measuring the extent, nature and consequences of pregnancy, parental leave and return to work discrimination in Australian workplaces. In December last year, YWCA Australia joined over 150 leading community organisations from around Australia in writing to the Attorney-General, Senator George Brandis, urging him not to repeal the racial vilification protections in the Racial Discrimination Act. The letter highlighted the critical role that the Racial Discrimination Act (the Act) has long played in combating racial hatred and protecting individuals and groups against discrimination and hate speech. The Australian Government has now released an exposure draft of proposed amendments that will change the racial vilification protections in the Act.
