Community programs and services

YWCAs in Australia offer a broad range of programs aimed at developing women’s leadership, supporting women and girls, their families and communities through the provision of programs at critical times in their lives, and promoting gender equality.

These programs and services respond to real needs in Australian communities.

Programs and services include advocacy with government and other stakeholders, youth mentoring schemes, medium and long-term community housing, crisis accommodation, family violence support programs, accessible childcare, training and employment services, young women’s services and the ywca encore program (after breast cancer gentle exercise program).

Early intervention and prevention

Many YWCA programs in Australia focus on early intervention and prevention work, working with people before they reach crisis points in their lives and to break cycles of multi-generational disadvantage.

Integrated services

Many of our programs and services are also integrated, such as housing services that offer accommodation, support, information, lifeskills assistance, advocacy and referral.
