Good governance means running an organisation in a transparent, accountable and fair way

As an organisation committed to promoting the leadership of young women and acting ethically, the YWCA helps young women to learn about good governance.

YWCA governance training is designed to strengthen community organisations, including YWCAs, by building the management and governance skills of board members and key staff.

Governance training includes topics like board member roles and responsibilities, the legal obligations of directors, good governance practices, evaluating risks and conflicts of interest.

The YWCA of Canberra offers two governance training programs:

The Board Traineeship Program
, YWCA of Canberra

The Board Traineeship Program offers women who have limited formal experience in Board roles the opportunity to sit in on YWCA of Canberra Board discussions, participate in debate and understand more about good governance and the responsibilities of directors.

Women Out Front, YWCA of Canberra

Women Out Front is designed to address the under-representation of women on boards by building the capacity and confidence of women who would like to contribute to community leadership through board membership.

Run annually, the Women Out Front series comprises four key events -  a Leadership Forum, a Young Women’s Leadership Forum, a Governance Workshop and a Finance Workshop.
