Have Reseachers at QUT Found The First Australian Women's Soccer Team?

The photograph, found amongst glass shards with a few other precious artifacts, points to a long and rich history of women's participation in the sport- long before the Matildas.

The discoveries are part of a local history project called "With The Ball At Her Feet," which seeks to document the presence of women's soccer in Australia, particularly through the sport's "missing years." As the project's site says, "there were games and practices in 1926, 1933 and prior to 1963. At present, the periods in between those years is a mystery."

Amongst the other finds were photos of what was possibly the first match, held at the Brisbane Cricket Grounds (colloquially known as "The Gabba) on September 24th, 1921.
