World Council - Latest News

The end of world council comes with the ache of tiredness but also a sense of potential. We've just elected our new world leadership and agreed our new strategic plan. Of the 20 members of world world - nine are women 30 years and under, from all of our global regions. Of the six vice-presidents four are young women. Both of these figures exceed our quota requirements.

A couple of us went to the workshop run by YWCA of Japan yesterday. Billed as a session around creating tools for a non-violent society for women and children, the ladies from Japan took us on a journey back to March of this year and the unfolding disaster of the earthquake, the resulting tsunami and the meltdown of the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

Today is a big day for YWCA Australia and YWCA of Canberra with World Council moving into the Skills Building workshops. The YWCA of Canberra has been excited to be leading the process for three of the workshops

The first official day of business of the 27th YWCA World Council started with the entrance of all the delegates in national uniforms. Australian delegates wore scarves printed by the people from the Rimminginning district in West Arnhem Land.

There is a lot going on at World Council and the International Women's Summit - amazing speakers and interesting workshops. But there is something else very special going on. All around me women are making and renewing the friendships that support our global movement.
