As a national organisation, it is important for us to have a national presence. Through our dedicated team members, we currently have a physical presence in Darwin, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, Townsville, Toowoomba, Lismore, Campbelltown, Nowra, and Bendigo. As an evolving intersectional feminist organisation, our regional presence is important, and this will evolve and change over time based on our strategic priorities and the needs of local communities.

How long have you been in your current role?
3 years. I have always worked in human/community services, but this is my first time working in the disability sector.
Can you tell us what it is that you love about your job?
I love being able to connect with, encourage and have fun with people who might otherwise have been ignored, overlooked or seen as unimportant.
What’s the best feedback you’ve had from a client?
That my sparkly glitter boots rock and I should wear them everyday!
What’s one new thing you’ve learned in the past few months?
Things will always work out, even if it doesn’t look like what you had planned, so find the beauty in the little things.
What are the three words you’d use to describe YWCA Australia?
Progressive, accepting, empowering.

What’s your hidden talent?
I wouldn’t call it a talent, but I’m a moderately competitive fencer (swords, not building) and can wield a sword in a competent fashion.

What is something you learned in the last week?
I’m a bit astronomy obsessive, and I read a hypothetical account of what it would be like to skydive through Saturn’s clouds systems. Once the sun fades in the thick clouds, you can fall at speeds of up to 500km in total darkness, never hitting a solid object, until you fall through the other side of the planet. Space is terrifying and amazing.
What is the one thing you cannot resist?
Buying more books than is healthy, be it fiscally or architecturally. My particular weakness is for mystery novels featuring wise-cracking anti-heroes, and I ran out of shelf space decades ago.
Where is the best place you’ve travelled to and why?
My trip to Paris five years ago was my first solo holiday ever. I went for three weeks, walked everywhere, ate everything in sight, and learned how to curse in the grandest traditions of the French language.

What’s your hidden talent?
Oh gosh! Got stuck on the first question…luckily it’s not “Millionaire Hot Seat”! I wouldn’t call it a talent, but people say I am a good host.
What are three words you’d use to describe Song?
Honest, innovative, hospitable.
What is something you learned in the last week?
Meat is not good for you. After watching the documentary “The Game Changers” on Netflix I got inspired to give a vegetarian diet a go. Coming from Poland where pork is the star of the menu it’s quite challenging to change my eating habits!
What is the one thing you cannot resist?
Escapades to nature.
Where is the best place you’ve travelled to and why?
Sumatra. It was supposed to be a small side trip while holidaying in Malaysia but become an unforgettable experience. Seeing orangutans in the wild, bathing elephants and climbing the volcanoes was something that my family will never forget. My kids learned not to take what they have for granted and that happiness doesn’t have to be associated with wealth.
