Statement on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

YWCA Australia is deeply saddened by the news of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s passing and expresses our deep gratitude and thanks for her long-term support of the YWCA movement.

As an organisation that champions young women’s leadership, we recognise the profound impact of the Queen and her seven decades of public service. The Queen came to power at a time when very few women held political power or high leadership positions. She showed generations of young women that a woman can be both a strong and compassionate leader.

On her twenty-first birthday, she said, “I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service.” A declaration that she delivered on and that we can all be inspired by – to use our strengths and talents in service of others.

YWCA Australia sends its condolences to the Royal Family at this sad time.

May she rest in peace.

YWCA Australia wishes to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we work, live and play and pay our respects to Elders past and present. We recognise First Nations people as the custodians of the lands, seas and skies, with more than 60,000 years of wisdom, connection and relationship in caring for Country.
