YWCA World Council 2019 Observer Delegate Expression of Interest

YWCA Australia invites interested members to nominate for multiple observer delegate positions available for YWCA World Council 2019.

Key Facts:

World Council is the global gathering of YWCA’s that takes place every four years. Its purpose is to set the strategic direction for the movement and elect the leadership that will guide us in achieving those goals.

World Council is a great opportunity to experience the YWCA movement in all of its diversity, to connect with our YWCA sisters from around the world, to celebrate women’s leadership and to work towards our collective vision.

World Council 2019 is being held in Johannesburg at the Tambo Conference Centre from 17th-22nd November 2019. In line with the World YWCA 2035 envisioning goal, the theme of World Council 2019 is ‘young women transforming power structures for gender equality’.

The opportunity to join as an observer delegate is open to members of YWCA Australia and its affiliates (YWCA Canberra and YWCA Hunter). Delegates are expected to participate in all World Council activities for the full duration of the meeting (17th-22nd November) as well as any pre-departure activities and meetings. As delegates are representatives of YWCA Australia, they are expected to uphold all organisational policies and procedures. A typical World Council experience may include daily YWCA business meetings, plenary sessions, member workshops and roundtables and reception and dinner events.

These delegate positions are self-funded and all costs are to be covered by the individual delegate. Some of the expenses you can expect to incur include:

  • World Council registration fee (approx. $1400 AUD)
  • Return airfares to Johannesburg
  • Taxis/transfers in home city and Johannesburg
  • Accommodation (group booking to be coordinated by YWCA Australia)
  • Meal and daily living expenses (daily breakfast and lunch provided by Council)
  • Travel insurance
  • Any visa related expenses (free visas are granted to Australian passport holders upon entry)
  • Required vaccinations
  • Any additional personalised expenses

Could you be one of the members to represent YWCA Australia at this important global event?
