Workplaces have a key role to play in creating gender equitable communities. The Gender Equity Matters (GEM) program is an activation point for organisations to advance gender equality and enhance diversity in their workplace.
Integrating gender equity principles into workplaces makes economic and business sense, and can be easily achieved with the right tools and support. Included in the three-month program is an assessment of and engagement with workplace policies, people and objectives to integrate gender equity principles into organisation culture, leadership and support, policies and programs, organisational practice, and measurement and reporting.
YWCA Australia has developed a framework that enables a tailored and flexible approach to audit and address specific workplace contexts, creating achievable goals and supporting all staff to engage in the change process. Included in this framework are a staff-wide survey, policy analysis, GEM report and recommendation, staff development workshops, workplace responses to gender-based violence, management workshops, resources, policy templates, and an action plan framework.
