With the recent news that our Darwin Team have been successful in receiving 3.99million in annual funding for our Specialist Homelessness Services across the next four years from the NT Government, YWCA Australia will be able to continue, expand, and add program offerings in Darwin.
One of the programs which is new, but which might sound familiar, is the Lived Experience and Advocacy Program (LEAP). This program builds on the success and model of YWCA Australia’s Amplifying Voices program, which is well known in Darwin for supporting young women and gender diverse people with lived experience of family and domestic violence to use their expertise to lead real change in their community – read about how Amplifying Voices advocates recently met with Minister Cahill to share their experiences.
Delivered in partnership with Anglicare NT, LEAP will bring together government, community, and lived experience advocates. With a trauma-aware and strengths-based approach, LEAP will create spaces where lived experience voices are heard, respected, and acted on. The program will help build the skills and confidence of advocates, while also strengthening the housing and homelessness sectors to work hand-in-hand with lived experience leaders. The Amplifying Voices program will continue, now under the wider umbrella of LEAP.
