Why you should work at YWCA
What our people say
Our employees have told us that:
- Their work is challenging and rewarding
- They want to make a difference
- They’re connected to our values of feminism and gender equality
- They have good relationships with other team members and managers
- They value work life balance and are provided with flexible working arrangements
Inclusion and employee voice
Our purpose is to be a strong, unified, national feminist organisation for women, young women and girls, working to achieve gender equality – and so our people are central to everything we do. Thoughts, opinions and ideas are always welcome. We encourage feedback from across the whole organisation and there are different ways for you to get involved including:
- Participating in our bi-annual culture survey (as well as other ad-hoc surveys throughout the year)
- Joining one of our employee Core Action Teams, working groups or committees.
Our various cross organisational working groups provide advice on organisational strategies, influence and amplify YWCA advocacy and nurture spaces for our employees in all their diversity to voice their ideas, concerns, needs and interests and are a great chance to connect with people across the organisation who you may not normally have the chance to work or interact with.
Work life balance and flexible work environment
As a feminist organisation, we know that people have different life commitments and that everyone’s situation is unique. In providing a work life balance, we do our best to accommodate each person’s specific needs within the boundaries of their role and provide a flexible work environment. Depending on the role, this might include flexible hours, work days and location, negotiated with their direct manager.
Salary packaging
As a not-for-profit organisation, our employees can take part in our salary packaging benefits. Employees can ‘salary package’ approved living expenses and approved meal and entertainment expenses up to $18,550 per year tax free This means more money in your pocket.
Employee Assistance Program and Health, Safety and Wellbeing
We provide counselling and support services to our employees through an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). EAP provides all YWCA employees and their immediate family members with free confidential support and advice for workplace and personal issues. This is supported by the mY-Wellbeing Hub, an online platform that offers support and resources across key areas like work, family, health, life and money.
Continuing professional development
We’re passionate about continuing to build the capacity of our people. That’s why each team member can access paid study leave for approved courses.
We also provide organisation and sector-specific training through mY-Learning, YWCA Australia’s online learning management system. mY Learning also includes a comprehensive library of learning resources across general workplace skill areas including IT literacy skills, communication skills, people management modules, and lots more.
Paid Parental Leave
We currently offer 14 weeks paid parental leave and we continue to contribute superannuation payments while our employees are on paid parental leave.
