YWCA Australia, the only national specialist women’s housing provider, is pleased to officially break ground on their new social housing project in Lavington, NSW today.
This $5 million development is partially funded by the Homes NSW Social Housing Accelerator Fund and will deliver 10 new homes for women led families from the NSW social housing register.
This development will be home for local women-led families with experience of domestic and family violence and a minimum 10% of properties will be allocated to Aboriginal women and their families.
YWCA Australia’s Director, Development and Housing, Desmond Chin, is excited to progress this important development which will deliver much needed safe, secure and affordable housing for women in Lavington, NSW.
“Safe homes are foundational to building an equal future. Today we are progressing the delivery of 10 new homes for women and gender diverse people in Lavington. These homes will provide the stability needed to establish a positive future for their residents”, said Mr Chin.
“This is YWCA Australia’s first housing development in NSW and we look forward to this being one of many in NSW. Every new home helps alleviate the acute housing shortage throughout the country, particularly in rural and regional communities.”
“As a national leader in gender responsive housing, we are committed to working with all levels of Government to increase housing supply for women across Australia, especially in regional areas”.
NSW Minister for Housing and Homelessness Rose Jackson said this project is a great example of how government and community housing providers can work together to deliver safe and secure homes for those who need them most.
“Through the Social Housing Accelerator Fund, we’re backing important projects like this one in Lavington that will provide housing for women and children, particularly those escaping domestic and family violence,” Ms Jackson said.
“Projects like this are helping to deliver real solutions in the middle of a housing crisis by getting new homes built quickly and where they’re needed most.
“We’re proud to partner with organisations like YWCA to accelerate the delivery of housing in regional NSW and ensure more women and families have a safe place to call home.”
