National specialist women’s housing provider, YWCA Australia, has officially opened 10 brand-new safe, secure, affordable and long-term homes for women led families in the Albury-Wodonga region.
The brand new three-bedroom homes have been purpose built with the needs of women and their families in mind, with consideration to family living as well as safety and security, thanks to project partners and local builders, Cavalier Homes.
YWCA Australia’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Diana Sayed is excited to see the homes completed and to welcome the new residents in the coming weeks.
“YWCA Australia has a proud history in the Albury-Wodonga community, and I am so pleased to officially open our first homes in NSW”, says Ms Sayed.
“Australians are experiencing a housing crisis and women are facing the brunt of this. Average wait times for Social Housing in NSW can range from 2 to 10 years and regional areas like Albury-Wodonga are no exception.
“Just over 12 months ago, we completed our first homes in nearby Wodonga and Baranduda. Through those homes and from listening to our residents, we know the important role a safe and secure home plays in creating stability and the foundations for a bright future.
“With the completion of these homes in Lavington, for 10 more women and their families in this community, that future starts today. YWCA is proud to play our part in delivering these much-needed homes for the community, in partnership with Homes NSW.”
As a national leader in gender responsive housing, YWCA is committed to working with all levels of government to deliver more safe, secure and affordable homes and collaborating on solutions that deliver impact.
This $5 million development is partially funded by the Homes NSW Social Housing Accelerator Fund. All homes are designated as Social Housing and the residents will be from the NSW Social Housing Register.
