A new UN resolution to reiterate the importance of women's involvement in conflict prevention, resolution and peace-building has been passed by the UN Security Council.  Resolution 2122, unanimously adopted last Friday 18 October, puts in place a roadmap for "a more systematic approach to the implementation of commitments on women, peace and security". It highlights the critical importance of ­gender equality and women's empowerment to international peace and security.

Elizabeth Broderick, Sex Discrimination Commissioner, today launched Working without fear: Results of the sexual harassment national telephone survey 2012, which shows that sexual harassment is not only widespread in Australian workplaces, but that progress in addressing it has stalled. The report reveals that just over one in five people (21%) were sexually harassed in the workplace in the past five years, and that workplace sexual harassment is a particular problem for women.
