Domestic and Family Violence Centre

YWCA’s Domestic and Family Violence Centre provides support to women and gender diverse people who are experiencing or have experienced family and domestic violence in the Greater Darwin region.

Everyone deserves to live a life free from violence. Whether you are thinking of leaving, have already left or are unsure of what you want to do, we can help.

We offer a range of services, supports and advocacy around safety for women and children and accessing safe short-term and long-term accommodation for your family.

Sponsored by the Northern Territory Government.

What support can we provide?

Tailored Support

Escaping domestic and family violence can take planning, and that can be hard to do yourself. YWCA offers tailored support to ensure you and your family feel safe. This includes:

  • Safety planning
  • Information and education on family and domestic violence
  • Support to access security upgrades to remain safe in a home of your choice
  • Advocacy and assistance with navigating and collaborating with other services
  • Referrals to legal, counselling and other specialised support services

Domestic and Family Violence Counselling

Experiencing domestic and family violence can be complex and isolating. YWCA offers one-on-one and group counselling for victim survivors of family and domestic violence.

The individual sessions are driven by your own goals, and you will receive 6-8 sessions. The structure of the group sessions focuses on art, psychological education, building networks and reducing isolation.

Who can we help?

Women and non-binary people with or without children in their care who have experienced, currently experiencing or at-risk of family and domestic violence in Darwin, Palmerston and the Litchfield Council region.
